Sunrise Sea Villa II

Location: Horefto, Pelion, Greece

Project year: 2018-2019

The “Sunrise Sea Villa II” is located in the seaside village of Chorefto at Pelion, one of the most beautiful areas of Eastern Pelion and port of the mountainous settlement of Zagora.

The residence is the result of reuse and intervention in an existing construction undertaken by the office “Dimitris Philippitzis and Associates”. The building is part of a complex that was partially completed in the area by another constructor.

Privileged is the location of the residence located on the edge of the seaside settlement, away from the intensity of restaurants, with unobstructed views of the Aegean Sea. Access to the residence is direct as it is located on the municipal coastal road.

“Sunrise Sea Villa II” is a two-storey residence with three bedrooms, which can accommodate up to six guests, as well as large common areas on the ground floor and the surrounding area. The main concern of the ruse study was to create functional and friendly spaces for the better service of the tenants.

The design principle followed, both for the residential building and for the outdoor configurations, is that of the gentle intervention and the harmonized integration in the natural environment with emphasis on the traditional architecture. The exterior cladding I composed of natural materials that have been selected such as pozzolanic (kurasani) coatings in earth tones and stone walls and a slab roof of the local quarries. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the natural light of the interior with large, properly oriented openings and on the creation of sustainable outdoor intermediate spaces with the construction of the outdoor living rooms.

The exterior image is complemented by built-in outdoor living areas made of stone with wooden canopies (pergola) and shading systems, balconies, as well as the built-in stone shower and BBQ.

Inside the residence, modern typologies have been followed in the design of living spaces with design options that have references to both island and Pelion houses. The embossed surfaces from natural Thera earth in earthly colors in combination with the built-in furniture with organic forms, the indirect lighting and the handmade wooden and metal elements create the feeling of a familiar and warm space of high quality with integrated all modern technologies providing an excellent and luxurious living.
