Overlooking Volos

Stone Home at Katichori

Walking on the cobbles path of the village, we are welcomed by the new residence. A simple wooden door leads to the east garden where the main entrance of the house is located aw well as the independent entrance to the guest house with the stone arcade.

The residence is developed around the perimeter of the staircase following the flow of its engravings. The stone dome that is created at the base of the stairs separates the auxiliary spaces as well as the hostel from the rest of the house. The separation is also aesthetically understood by the materiality that gradually changes leading internally from the main entrance to the hostel.

At the first floor we can find the bedrooms which enjoy the beauty of the open roof as well as their lofts with the warmth they offer during their use, especially to the children of the family.

The corner windows of the kitchen and the one bedroom open the residence to the east overlooking the village and Pelion, while the other openings invite users to enjoy the unobstructed view to Volos and the Pagasitikos.

Characteristic is the wooden pergola – balcony, which creates the “border” between the outside and the interior, housing the outdoor living room on the ground floor and foreshadowing the south courtyard of the house.

The space of the outdoor covered, traditional stone oven is a corner of enjoyment, visual, taste and acoustics as the nightingales that live in the stream next to the courtyard, are always willing to accompany the user with their song.

The planting in the outdoor areas, the traditional details that have been included in the stone volume of the residence but also its placement in the ground relief integrate the house harmoniously in the visual whole of the settlement, adding to its natural evolution.
