Location: Alli Meria, Pelion, Greece
Project year: 2010-2015
An “ark” school, emergencing multiple intelligences and reconciling emotional culture, environmental education and new technologies.
The complex is located at the foot of Mount Pelion, on a hillside, overlooking the port and the city of Volos.
The school includes laboratories, conference rooms and leisure areas, having as an expression core of the children, the outdoor amphitheater. An “ark” school, emergencing multiple intelligences and reconciling emotional culture, environmental education and new technologies.
Indoors we can find hiding places behind secret passages, dark arcades and hidden libraries, children’s workshops on cooking, domes, arches, the “tree of knowledge” and a pool in the “dark basements”, all elements that stimulate children’s creativity and imagination and that convert learning into a creative ‘game’.
The configuration of the exterior includes the “reflexology path” connecting the various “events-games” with botanical gardens, climbing walls, to the evolution of water and the earthy wooden toys, offering a unique opportunity for children, to contact with nature.
Designing a school and especially elementary-school, effectively you reposition the issue of multi-dimensional human being and find ways in which, space with its “fairy tales”, gives excuses to highlight the curiosity and welfare hormones of the children.
