University of Thessaly – Engineering School – Department of Architecture
Location: Volos, Greece
Project year: 1989-1990
The building of the department of Architects of University Thessaly was accommodated in the installations of former factorial building of the Metallurgic (former factory Papariga).
The central idea of intervention was the creation of a “building in building” maintaining the style of factorial manufacture, in the organisation of space as well as in the choice of materials and colors.
Thus the building is simple in its geometry and provision of spaces and it is only characterized by local over shootings of the rule of simplicity, particularly in the points where existed the need of indication of certain uses as in the big communal spaces of entries, in the amphitheatre and in the entries of rooms of teaching.
It is an architecture that attempts to signal through its projection of the syntactic and its associative reserve is limited to referring to the same character of the factorial building.
Design of “Synthesis Ltd.”: architects Costas Adamakis , Eleni Galli , Dimitra Nikolaou, Dimitri Philippitzis.
