Old stone mountain mansion, renovated and reborn
Location: Tsagarada, Pelion, Greece
Project year: 2009-2012
…stone walls that seep with memories of life, together with the new construction, participate in a creative transformation to claim a continuation of their existence…
Situated on an expansive sloping plot in Aghia Kyriaki near Tsagarada, Mount Pelion, an existing residential complex with a dominant mansion circa 1897 and newer outbuildings constitute a renewed totality focusing upon core outdoor living areas along with an infinity swimming pool.
Detecting hidden synergy allows connections with time to come naturally, the tall majestic trees bear witness to continuity and succession.
Segments of past life reconstituted to create a new setting with fresh characteristics to serve the needs of contemporary living, whilst utilising existing buildings and the natural qualities of the area.
In the old mansion, from the remnants of the two storey stone façade, emerges the new construction accommodating the restrooms with their glazed porches looking south and east with panoramic views over the Aegean Sea. On the lower floors and outbuildings are rooms and suites with exclusive bathrooms.
The harmonious construction creates a warm and life giving setting complimenting the details of the natural environment.
