Holiday home with view over Pagasitikos bay
Location: Lefokastro, Pelion, Greece
Project year: 2007-2010
The lightness of an island style habitat is combined with the robustness of a Pelion stone building making the residence a limbic space between the beach and the mountain.
The residence is situated in Mount Pelion, on a slope with olive groves leading to a rocky beach. The design principle followed is that of mild intervention and seamless integration into the natural environment.
Among the main objectives include the opening of the interior to the unique natural environment interacting on the lines of the residence with the morphology and the folds of the land. In this way, the house and the yard seem to emerge from the natural ground and fit perfectly into it. Configuration of the external surroundings is dictated by zigzags and curved tracings that coexist whilst the main body of the house fuses onto the hillside through terraces and a succession of steps. The differing levels of the garden terrace seem to echo rolling waves of the sea.
By using different textures and earthy colors the whole construction creates the feeling of a warm and cozy space, the harmonious combination of which makes the house an integral part of the natural outdoor environment.
